Cynthia "Cindy" Reese Leon, M.A. LPC

Cindy received her Master’s in Counseling from Texas State University in 2010 and her undergraduate in Education from The University of Texas. Before becoming a counselor she worked as a middle school teacher for 10 years. Cindy’s passion for working with children and adolescents has led her to a desire to help them through the difficult issues that they can face as they grow. She believes that if children and adolescents are able to learn how to deal with their struggles at an early age then they will be more likely to grow up to become productive and capable adults. Issues such as defiance, anxiety, divorce, self-confidence and assertiveness can all be addressed through counseling to help children and adolescents to become better adjusted and able to handle what life throws at them.
After graduate school Cindy began working as a school counselor. She worked as an elementary school counselor for three years and enjoyed her time there. During this time she also worked in private practice with first responders, individuals, families, and children. As a school counselor Cindy earned a grant to purchase the materials necessary to provide play therapy to students at the school where she worked

After moving to Houston, Cindy began working at Freedom Place, a residential treatment center for girls who were victims of sex trafficking. At Freedom Place, she first served as a therapist and then as the clinical director working with girls ages 9-18.

Cindy has also been trained in Prepare/Enrich a pre-marital/marital counseling program that helps couples to identify strengths and weaknesses in their relationship. The couple and counselor then work together to build on strengths and to strengthen areas in which the couple struggles. To learn more about Prepare/Enrich please go to their web site: www.prepare-enrich.com/

Cindy left Freedom Place to start Okapi Counseling and Family Services to continue her work with children and adolescents.
